The Cross

The Prison Inmates I worked with for ten years carried lot of wisdom. I remember sitting with one older guy—doing a life sentence for murder, we were talking about matters of faith. On my office wall, I had hanging a rather large crucifix. The inmate, a former Protestant that converted to Catholicism, said to me, “You want to know what bothered me about being a (insert denomination here)?” “In Church and around their necks, they hung and wore the empty Cross; and you know what? When you turn the empty Cross on its side, it just looks like an X. Us Catholics keep Jesus’ body on the Cross so we can never turn it just into another X.”

Such wisdom. Everything in life is not just about the Resurrection—you can never view the Resurrection without recognizing the Crucifixion! St. Daniel the Stylite, Ora pro nobis!!!
