Saint Nicholas

About two decades ago, I visited the country of Estonia. Tallinn is a vibrant city, and is secured by a wall–mirroring the city of Rome. Whenever I would pass an Orthodox Church, I would stop in and light a candle, while breathing in that distinct beeswax scent so unique to Churches. It was in Tallinn that I was able to purchase a sterling medallion depicting Saint Nicholas. I wore it all during my Prison Ministry. St. Nicholas is a patron Saint of the incarcerated because he would visit the imprisoned and was thought to have been incarcerated for part of his life. I happily remember that on the Eve of his feast day while I was a Seminarian, we would leave a shoe outside of our dorm room door and Saint Nicholas would visit and leave treats for us with the help of upperclassmen.
