When I was engaged in Prison Ministry full time, I often encountered those who were extremely angry. The best outlet for that anger was to be loudly vocal. I never backed down from actively listening to a man that was shouting at me. Often I would raise my hand as if to say, “Stop.” I found that this usually worked to stop the barrage of verbal bullets directed at me and allowed for a mental “reboot” to happen. Yesterday, I watched a young person dangerously walk across a parking lot, staring at her phone, oblivious to busy traffic and obstacles before her and around her. I wish I could have helped her to “reboot” to see the world around her. Our youth need a reboot to experience the depth of our faith. In further posts, I hope to share ideas on how to achieve this goal.
